Environmental responsibility and commitments
Environmental responsibility is key to all of UPM Tilhill’s operations. Our management of environmental issues is compliant with the ISO 14001 standard. UPM Tilhill is the only forestry company in the UK to employ a full-time ecologist to advise on environmental matters.

The delicate balance that must be struck between commercial return and environmental requirements is well understood by UPM Tilhill. Our advice is pragmatic and specific to the needs of the client and the site. Placing the natural heritage value of land in the context of its wider landscape setting is essential, as is relating such values to wider initiatives such as Habitat Action Plans, Species Action Plans, Local Biodiversity Action Plans, European Directives and the wide range of Forestry Commission guidance on ancient woodland and peatland restoration and management.

Environmental commitments

UPM Tilhill is wholeheartedly committed to its obligation to the environment, and operates strictly to an Environmental Management System (EMS), which is compliant with the BS EN ISO 14001 standard.
UPM Tilhill is committed to meeting the needs of its clients in an environmentally-sound manner by seeking to minimise environmental impact, and acting on opportunities to generate environmental benefit.
The company seeks best practice in carrying out its activities; to take due account of, and enhance as appropriate, issues such as conservation and biodiversity in relation to its clients' properties and operational sites; and to prevent pollution arising from its activities or services.
