UPM Tilhill launches One-Stop Shop Hedge Planting Pack for 2008

With the launch of its ‘no-hassle’ Hedgerow Planting Pack for 2007/8, UPM Tilhill is hoping to encourage more farmers and landowners to take a fresh look at the financial and environmental benefits well-managed hedges can bring.

“Our Hedgerow Planting Pack takes all the hard work out of planning, purchasing and planting a new hedge,” said Richard Sochacki, UPM Tilhill. “As well as being an integral part of the British countryside, hedgerows perform a vital function in marking boundaries, retaining stock and providing corridors for wildlife and important habitat.”

The Hedgerow Planting Pack supplies everything needed to plant 250 metres of new hedgerow, or restore existing hedge boundaries. It is ideal for those signing up to DEFRA’s Environmental Stewardship Scheme and Higher Level Scheme which provide funding to farmers and other land managers in England delivering effective environmental management on their land.

Using a simple order form, available by post or on-line (www.upm-tilhill.com), applicants state their purchase choice of bare-rooted or cell-grown stock and make a selection from Blackthorn, Hazel, Dogwood, or Field Maple. This personal selection makes up 30% of the plant package that, with the remaining 70% of Hawthorn, comprises 1000 plants which allow for a double staggered row of four plants per metre. Plant supports and guards can also be ordered and, thanks to UPM Tilhill’s national bulk-purchasing power, all Packs are available at competitive prices.

In addition, farmers and landowners can tap into UPM Tilhill’s expertise, via the company’s local office network, to book a site visit to assess their hedgerow creation or management requirements; request help with planting or project management; or seek specialist advice on preparing and submitting grant applications for the new English Woodland Grant Scheme and Farm Woodland Payment.

Closing dates for order and payment of bare-rooted stock is 28th February 2008 and for cell-grown stock 30th April 2008. The despatch period is 30th November to 15th March 2008 for bare-rooted plants, and 30th September to 15th May 2008 for cell-grown.
