UPM Tilhill appoints Norman Heighton to head Midlands District

UPM Tilhill, the UK’s leading forestry and landscaping company, has appointed Norman Heighton as District Manager for its Midlands District.

Norman will head a team specialising in commercial hard and soft landscaping; site clearance and ground preparation; tree survey and arboriculture; conservation works; habitat creation, forestry and woodlands projects.

His role will include the development of existing and new business streams; ensuring compliance with assurance management systems and health & safety; and the development of technical staff through appraisal and training programs.

“I’m very proud to be heading up the new look Midlands District,” said Norman. “My aspirations for this, my first senior management role, begin with my team of Forestry and Contract Managers. By inspiring them to develop in their careers and reach the highest levels of training, I aim to ensure new and existing clients continue to benefit from the highest quality service.”

Norman joined UPM Tilhill in 2003 as Contracts Manager for the South East England District. With over 15 years previous landscaping experience under his belt, Norman managed various high-value, hard and soft landscape projects for local authorities and main contractors. Since transferring to the Midlands District, Norman has been responsible for the development of the contracting business, initiating new systems to secure a strong, sustainable tender pipeline with existing and new clients to the District.

“Norman’s track record with us, supported by his wealth of experience and knowledge, made him a natural choice to fulfil this important management role,” said Peter Middleton, Commercial Director, UPM Tilhill. “Norman is a self motivated and determined manager with a pro-active approach to problem solving. We wish him every success.”

Operating from the District office at Long Bennington, Newark, Nottinghamshire, Norman will manage the company’s activities across an area spanning Lincolnshire, Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire, Leicestershire, Warwickshire, Birmingham conurbation and Rutland. Norman, who lives in Cheltenham, replaces Richard Sochacki.
