Tree clearance of the 23ha upland site, consisting of 18-year-old Sitka spruce, in order to restore the area to an upland raised mire. Since planting, the site has been designated a Site of Special Scientific Interest, and was recently awarded candidate status as a Special Area of Conservation.

  • Clearance work had to ensure minimal disturbance to surface vegetation as part of the restoration project.
  • Project was completed successfully using a Birds Eye mulching head mounted onto a 14T base unit. A full Health & Safety assessment was required to reflect the unique nature of this piece of equipment.
  • The low ground pressure of the machine ensured that minimal surface disturbance was achieved across the site.
  • Following the removal of tree cover, drains and natural water courses were left to become blocked and so raise the level of the water table.
