Tree clearance of the 23ha upland site, consisting of 18-year-old Sitka spruce, in order to restore the area to an upland raised mire. Since planting, the site has been designated a Site of Special Scientific Interest, and was recently awarded candidate status as a Special Area of Conservation.
Clearance work had to ensure minimal disturbance to surface vegetation as part of the restoration project.
Project was completed successfully using a Birds Eye mulching head mounted onto a 14T base unit. A full Health & Safety assessment was required to reflect the unique nature of this piece of equipment.
The low ground pressure of the machine ensured that minimal surface disturbance was achieved across the site.
Following the removal of tree cover, drains and natural water courses were left to become blocked and so raise the level of the water table.
