Fencing > Neath West

Project: Neath West SWM2: fencing
Client: Network Rail
Value: £20,000
Following a project undertaken by UPM Tilhill to clear vegetation from the site, it was identified that the security of the Network Rail boundaries did not comply with Railtrack Code of Practice RT/CE/C/030 and Railway Group Standard GE/RT8063 to deter unauthorised access and vandalism.
To address this problem:
  • 300m of 1.8m palisade fencing (to BS1722 part 10) was erected adjacent to the college and housing estate in order to prevent unauthorised access to the railway.
  • 5m high weldmesh fencing was erected in order to prevent footballs landing on rail property from adjacent playing fields (a major factor contributing to trespass).
  • Where no boundary was evident between rail and private properties, gardens were immediately fenced off with ‘Heras’ type fencing, and an instruction was given to erect 1.8m chainlink fencing to secure the boundary.
