Project: Somerton CCL: Fencing
Client: Network Rail
Value: £60,000
Prior to the vegetation clearance works also carried out by UPM Tilhill at this site, the fencing condition had been surveyed and was found to be sub-standard, and in poor condition throughout.
In order to meet the requirements of Railtrack Code of Practice RT/CE/C/030 and Railway Group Standard GE/RT8063 to deter unauthorised access and vandalism, a higher standard of fencing was required.
Weldmesh: 1250m of 1.8m Weldmesh was erected in the suburban area to prevent unauthorised access to the track.
Palisade: In the areas adjacent to a footpath the specification was changed to 1.8m palisade to increase security and allow for the fixing of specialist anti-climb guards to prevent unauthorised access from the bridge wings.
Closeboard fencing: Where boundary fencing was to form an integral part of a residential boundary fence, close board fencing was erected.
All fencing to BS1722 part 10.
